Canons Year 10 Afternoon Tea

July 11th

Our Year 10 Food Preparation and Nutrition Students served up a stunning Summer Afternoon Tea!

On Friday the 11th July, 15 of our talented Year 10 GCSE students showcased their skills by preparing a delightful summer afternoon tea. Teams of students worked collaboratively to plan and design a creative menu, which they trialed ahead of the big day.

The beautifully tailored menu line-up!

Their sample menu was tasted and reviewed by Chef Sergi from the prestigious Athenaeum Hotel in London. He provided invaluable feedback, helping the students refine their dishes and raise their standards even further. The final menu, displayed on an elegant tiered tray, consisted of the afternoon tea essentials of scones and sandwiches, accompanied by sweet and savoury patisseries, with a pot of freshly brewed tea.

The students needed minimal help from our lovely teachers, Miss Campbell and Ms Yip, thriving in the kitchen and finally applying their skills learnt into action!

Among the many highlights on the tiered trays were the light and airy raspberry and blueberry meringues, a velvety vanilla cheesecake topped with fresh strawberries, and a delicious vegan sausage roll — all of which received glowing praise.

The event was a great success, having handed out invitations to neighbours from the local Canons High community, alongside to our staff to enjoy the students’ hard work. Guests were thoroughly impressed by the high level of cooking and baking, the professional presentation, and the exceptional service delivered by the students.

Students visited each table, hosting their guests and explaining each item served. How nerve-wracking to serve your Principal!

Mr Conway, Canons very own food connoisseur was truly impressed by the execution of this year's menu. His final, and best afternoon tea at the school!

Ms Snyder couldn't believe how talented the students are!

In the midst of the busy final weeks leading up to Summer break, this Afternoon Tea was a welcome reminder of community within the school. A well deserved and appreciated break for those who attended, and to the students who finally were able to reap their rewards after weeks of preparation!

Well done to our Year 10 students for their creativity, teamwork, and professionalism. Thank you to all that attended, A truly memorable afternoon!
