Children's Mental Health Week
February 10th-12th
A week full of activities and workshops!
The second week of February saw Place2Be's annual Children's Mental Health Week, an event that Canons High School proudly participates in yearly!
The theme for this year is "This is my place", emphasising how a sense of belonging as individuals, in friendships, in school, and in communities plays a vital role in mental health and wellbeing.
So much to choose from!
This week's activities kicked off with a student hosted Cake and Bake Sale, where staff and students alike were encouraged to bring in home-made treats, with Ms Kiashek's homemade brownies being a super hit. In total, £78.50 was raised just from the bake sale!
Thank you to our prefects for managing the bake sale, amazing work!

Tuesday saw our students taking part in a range of workshops during lunchtime, from bracelet making to colouring and meditation. Even our teachers got involved, with Miss Snyder and Miss Komara especially enjoying the mindfulness colouring session.

Our Sixth Form Youth Health Champions
Our Sixth Formers also participated in the Children's Mental Health Week, hosting workshops within the Sixth Form Building. Workshops were hosted by our fantastic Youth Health Champions & Miss Snyder! Year 12 and 13 students used the "Gratitude Jar" to express the things they are grateful for! By the end of the day, the Jar was filled with little notes of thankfulness.

Our Art Department created a Canons Community tree, using each of our students' fingerprints to create the leaves. The individuality of each fingerprint signified how we all are unique, but our diversity makes our community strong.

Thursday was the long awaited Mental Health Fair, held in the hall the entire day. The fair was supported by a multitude of Charities, such as, Pets as Therapy, Samaritans, Mind in Harrow and many more.

Students gathered in the hall, with different Year groups being allocated certain times. Upon entering the hall, they were given the chance to explore and speak to the different representatives from the Charities. There were also a range of activities that were beneficial for our students' mental health.

Filled with colourful leaves!
Students were encouraged to write down what they are thankful for or love about Canons High School, filling up the empty tree with their "leaves" of positivity.
Quotes from our students:
"I'm thankful for my friends!" - Daria
"I'm thankful for Mr Evans and The Basketball Team" - Audrin 7R
"I really like Fridays cuz its the last day" - Anonymous
They also filled up a giant map of the school, using the locations of certain rooms as reference to where they felt "they belonged".
Some messages from our students:
"I feel that Mr Bullock makes me feel comfortable and makes me laugh a lot"
"CA1 - Because I enjoy learning there, my form tutor makes me feel I belong."

The favourite visitor of the day was
Tim the Therapy Dog!
Hello Tim!
Our Mental Health week was a roaring success, in total, we raised a whopping £305 for charity!
We hope we were able to encourage our students to create inclusive and nurturing environments here at Canons High School, where they can feel they belong and can say "This is My Place"!
