Canons Summer Charity Dinner
Our Year 10 'Food Preparation & Nutrition' students took on the high pressure task of preparing and presenting a very special Charity Dinner event, with everything on the menu prepared and cooked by their own hands!
This was a chance for our students to showcase their ever growing culinary skills which they had attained over the last academic year. A three course meal was presented with our students also acting as Host, Maitre d' and servers.
The big event arrived on July 17th and, guided and assisted by our Head of Food Miss M Campbell and Food Technology Technician Miss S Barnes, several tables were set out and beautifully laid in readiness for the diners, who had responded to the invitations sent out to our staff earlier in the month.
The late afternoon dinner went extremely well with everyone very impressed by the high standard of the food and its presentation.
Special thanks to everyone who came along and ate with us, without whom the event wouldn't have happened. Special catering thanks to our friends, the professional chefs from West Herts College who joined us to offer assistance and special floral thanks to Miss J Hudson and Miss S Brennan for creating the lovely fresh flower arrangements which really finished off the tables beautifully.
Very special thanks to ex-student Tamika Sakari who made sure the event ran smoothly and professionally. Tami has passed her West Herts catering course and is now enrolled in their Events Management course, passing the first two years with distinction. Her passion and enthusiasm was unmissable and very inspiring for our current GCSE students.
Miss Campbell and Miss Barnes are truly proud of their students and the great success of their first Summer Charity Dinner event.
Dinner guests were asked to give feedback to our Food & Nutrition students, and to make a donation to our local Harrow Foodbank equal to what they thought their meal was worth.
Subsequently, many staff who weren't able to actually make the dinner event, ordered portions of what had been on offer and again donated to our Foodbank. At least £310 was raised by our diners although many others donated anonymously.
