Greenwich University Maths Trip
July 1st | Ms Carsane
During the heatwave, our Year 9 Students went on a walking tour through London, finally reaching their destination of Greenwich University!
It was a hot day for the Year 9 students, and they did a lot of walking. The students walked through the Greenwich Foot Tunnel and were asked to answer several math questions, including identifying which 3D shape matched the tunnel’s cross-section.

After passing through the tunnel under the River Thames, we arrived at the Cutty Sark, where the students saw the famous British clipper ship. They were asked to estimate the ship’s length and height in metres.
Working hard underground!

Mr Theodoulou kept everyone organised and focused!
The students then attended a series of talks and workshops. One workshop focused on linear programming, where they learned how to build tables and chairs using limited resources. Linear programming is a mathematical technique used to optimize (either maximize or minimize) a linear objective function, subject to a set of linear constraints.
A star student who excelled doing this task was Basim R from 9B! Well done!
Finally, upon reaching the grounds of Greenwich University, students had one last question to answer in their Treasure Hunt booklet: how many different shapes they could spot around them.
A question for you, how many shapes can you see below?

National Fish Hero Teacher Awards
July 1st
Huge congratulations to Ms Campbell, our teacher of Food Preparation and Nutrition, who has won a national Fish Hero Teacher Award at the @HeroesFish Conference in London!
The Fish in Schools Hero programme aims to ensure that every child gets a chance to prepare, cook and eat fish before they leave school and to train food teachers to be confident in preparing and cooking fish with pupils. The programme wants life-long learning experiences for thousands of pupils across the UK.

Ms Campbell was selected from hundreds of teachers nationwide for their outstanding work inspiring students to gain confidence with fish cookery, explore healthy eating, and learn about sustainability, seafood species, and careers in the fishing industry. Their efforts have given students in London valuable, hands-on experiences that many would not otherwise access.

Teachers from across the country who joined to be celebrated!
The programme, funded by the Fishmongers’ Company’s Fisheries Charitable Trust, and delivered by the Food Teachers Centre, supports schools by providing free fish deliveries, hands-on teacher training, classroom resources and exciting pupil masterclasses. Through their involvement, Canons pupils have gained valuable cooking skills and confidence, with many now saying they want to eat and cook more fish.

Ms Campbell always stands out of the crowd with her love of patterns!
Over the last six years, the Fish in Schools Hero programme, funded by the Fishmongers’ Company’s Fisheries Charitable Trust, and managed by the Food Teachers Centre, has delivered free fish to schools, provided teacher training, and supported creative classroom learning. Thanks to this support, Canons students have been part of a national effort to address falling fish consumption and inspire the next generation of confident, informed home cooks.
“It’s a huge honour to receive this award,” said Ms Campbell. “Seeing students excited to cook and taste fish, many for the first time, is incredibly rewarding!”

Feeling like Merida!
We are super proud of the group for facing their fears at soaring heights and building on their teamwork skills on the ground. At the end of our trip, our group instructor commented that they were by far the best group he had ever worked with.

Our teachers didn't hesitate to jump right in with the students too!

Thank you to Mr Beck, Ms Snyder and Ms Marrey for giving up their weekend to take our students on this trip. Well done to all who attended, we look forward to presenting them with their PGL completion certificates!
Celebration Evenings
July 14th-17th
The past week, we have celebrated select students from Year 7-10, for excelling in certain subjects, or categories such as 100% Attendance, 0 Behaviour Points and Achievement Points!

Parents and family were invited to celebrate our students' achievements, and the award winners dressed in their best outfits!
Well done to all of those who were awarded for their efforts!

Proud Heads of Year 8 and 9 Miss Marrey and Mr Wardle ensured they snapped a few pictures with their students.
Here's what Miss Marrey had to say!
I was incredibly proud to see so many new faces at this week’s Year 8 Achievement Celebration Evening. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on all that Year 8 has accomplished and to let them know just how proud I am of their hard work, growth, and resilience. The number of new students who joined us this year is a true testament to the positive progress and inclusive spirit of the year group. Well done, Year 8—you continue to impress and inspire. I couldn’t be prouder to be your Head of Year! - Miss Marrey!
