Canons celebrates excellent GCSE results

Year 11 students at Canons were celebrating this morning after arriving to pick up their GCSE results.(Aug 22nd)

The hall was full, with over 150 students arriving early to open their envelopes. This year's results showed a big improvement in our English and Maths grades with a 12% improvement in those achieving 9-4 grades, with English achieving significantly above the National Average.

Science also had excellent Combined and Triple results enabling more of our Year 11 students to access STEM subjects in the Sixth Form.

A very proud Head of Year 11, Sam Beck said:

‘Today marks the end of a hugely successful 5 years for our Year 11 students. They have achieved a fantastic set of results that stands them in good stead for some really promising futures.

I look forward to still seeing many of them in the Sixth Form next year, and I speak for all staff when I say how immensely proud we are of their achievements.’

What was particularly pleasing was the fact that students achieved 50 grade 9s and 80 grade 8s across a range of subjects in addition to an increase in the overall APS (Average Points Score) for all students.

Year 11 have had a fantastic attitude this year and these results are recognition of all their hard work and the commitment and professionalism of the staff who have supported them throughout the year. It is great that so many of our students can now join the Sixth Form to continue their studies at Post 16.

I am incredibly proud of all our students and it was great to see so many staff celebrating today with students and sharing in their achievements.

Sixth Form success at Canons!

Congratulations to all our Sixth Form students who have received their examination results today.

These results are testament to the effort, perseverance and commitment they have made over the past two years and all the support they have received from the staff at Canons and parents.

I am particularly pleased with the performance of English Literature, History, Religious Studies, Drama and Sociology A -Level, which have seen some excellent results.

Well done to all those students who have confirmed their university offers for the upcoming year and in particular, Omnia Nafie who has secured her place at Cambridge University with A*A*A to study Primary Education, Madina Mir who has been accepted to study Dentistry at Kings College with ABB,  Sudeys Abdullahi who has been accepted to study Medicine at Kings College with ABB and Filsan Mohamed who has been accepted to study Primary Education at St Mary’s University who achieved D*A*A.

Director of Sixth Form, Jess Smith said:

“I want to recognise the tremendous dedication and resilience our students have shown in achieving their true potential. These results are the culmination of all their hard work, and they should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.

I encourage them to take some time to reflect on their journey, celebrate their achievements, and consider the next steps with a clear and positive mindset. They have exciting futures ahead of them and we are incredibly proud of all their achievements.”
