Canons High School

Food Bank Collection - Autumn 2024

A whole school collection ran during the last week before our Autumn Half-Term for our local Harrow Food Bank. Students and staff were encouraged to donate to this very worthy cause.

But the whole issue of Food Banks can cause some worry and controversy amongst a few.

For this reason, the causes and circumstances of how ordinary local people, usually non unsimilar to ourselves, can suddenly find themselves in crisis was investigated, discussed and understood.

What we do know for certain is that local people need our help, and we, as a whole school, intended to be a part of that help.

Donations were placed into their House Colour sections on our stage.

Collection Organiser Mrs L Morcombe helping with the  checking and counting.

As an added inducement a House Point per item donated was given, and that included the staff donations since we are now all part of a particular house also.

Then, on that last Friday of term, with the fantastic assistance of our prefects, all our collected items were loaded into our minibus and driven down to the Harrow Foodbank, where they were received with enormous gratitude.

Everything being given a final check and sort.

Very well done to everyone who supported this great food bank collection. We had wanted it to be our biggest collection ever and I think we certainly managed that.

1240

items of requested food, toiletries and household items were donated by our school.

After a huge count up, the house donating the most, with 243 items, was Sapphire (Blue).
