Canons High School

Freshers Fair 2024

Our Freshers Fair is always held at the beginning of the Autumn Term. It gives our youngest and newest students in Years 7 & 8 an opportunity to see what clubs and activities there are to try out and join.

SUPER CURRICULUM - This is how we now refer to the extra curricular clubs and activities which take place at Canons High. Most take place at lunchtime or after school, but a few are even held before school for those who like to get in early.

Tables were set out in the hall and crewed by staff and students already involved in their respective club.

Along with the new school year starting in September, and our new Year 7 students joining us, many of our established Super Curriculum clubs and activities fire up again, accompanied by several new ones.

Our Faculty of Sport, Health & Wellbeing always run a huge weekly calendar of sporting clubs, changing each term with the seasons and weather.

Several girls had asked if girls football would be running this term, and we're happy to say that it is very much up and running, with matches against other schools already taking place.

Science was covered by our always popular STEM Club. Senior Science Technician Mrs Mann showed off some homemade lava lamps and some crazy mechanical gismos, which previous club members had put together.

Always popular and probably our longest running club is Astronomy Club, led by keen amateur astronomer Mr S Crook, who when he isn't looking at planets, is one of Canons' IT Technicians.

These colder nights, with clearer skies and an earlier setting sun, suit this club better, although they have a wide and varied array of activities to undertake which don't include traditional telescope star gazing.

Gardening Club might sound a bit strange to be advertising at this time of year, but preparation is everything. There's soil to be cleared on our Eco-Patch, seeds to be planted in our greenhouse and many other things to do , ready for the spring which will be here sooner than we imagine.

Chess Club is also extremely popular, where it's a keen mind and cool temperament that wins battles.

Maths teacher Mr Kaya is super enthusiastic about this famous strategy game and his club even held its own special school wide tournament last term.

But there is much, much more...

Students, to see a full listing of what's on offer, check out our newly relocated Super Curriculum board, near room 4.
