Sustainable Careers with Girls on Track - Formula E Event
July 15th | Ms Gilbertson
On Tuesday July 15th 2025, 16 enthusiastic Year 9 and 10 girls had the exciting opportunity to spend the day at Central Hall, exploring the world of Sustainable Careers in Formula E.
The event was designed to inspire and empower our young women by exposing them to the vast career possibilities within the motorsport industry.
On "Track" for a fantastic day!
The day began with light refreshments, setting a welcoming tone for what was to follow. Attendees were then treated to a fantastic panel discussion featuring a group of dynamic young women at different stages of their careers in Formula E. Their stories were a testament to resilience, innovation, and the power of representation.
Each speaker shared her unique journey, offering powerful stories, personal insights, and valuable advice.

Following the panel, students took part in three interactive workshops. These sessions focused on essential employability skills, the importance of sustainability in modern careers, and — to everyone’s excitement — an up-close encounter with a real Formula E race car. A definite crowd favourite!
A Formula E Gen3 Evo!
Canons also came out on top in the sustainability quiz — proof that the Geography Department is clearly doing something right!
The day concluded with an open Q&A session. Our students impressed with their thoughtful questions, including one that asked, “What is the hardest part of your job?”.
Ms. Waseem also posed an insightful question that captured the essence of the entire experience: “Why is it important to have more women working in Formula E?” sparking meaningful dialogue about gender representation, diversity, and inclusion in the industry.

After a day filled with inspiration, and empowerment, the key takeaway was clear: visibility matters. Seeing women thriving in traditionally male-dominated spaces like Formula E showed our girls what’s possible.
A special thank you to Ms Waseem, Miss Hassan, Mrs O'Sullivan and Ms Gilbertson for organising this exciting opportunity.
At Canons Highschool, we aim to empower and inspire each young woman, and trips like these further highlights that the sky truly is the limit for our students!
As beautifully put:
“It only takes one more woman to make a difference.”
