Foreign Translation Spelling Bee

May 6th | Ms Matomby

The Foreign Language Translation Bee consists of competitive learning of vocabulary for KS3 students, based on frequently used verbs and nouns in the target language.

It involves four stages - class, school, regional  and national with each stage being more challenging because students are initially required to master the present, then the preterite past, near future and finally modal verbs, in addition to the previous stage.

Ms Matomby and Mr Di Egidio were proud to accompany our talented students on this trip!

During each stage of the competition, students have one minute to translate as many sentences as possible from English into either French, German, Mandarin or Spanish. It is very impressive to see students translating over 20 sentences per minute, demonstrating immense dedication

After a tough contest at North London Collegiate School, we are very happy to announce that Harshiv B - Year 8 Spanish has made it to the national finals for the Foreign Language Translation Bee competition!

Well done Harshiv!

For the next stage he will be facing schools at a national level at Cambridge University later this year. Lamar B and Yasmin V in Year 9 also competed and gave a very strong performance, but unfortunately didn't make it to the national finals.

We are still immensely proud of all of our students who competed!

University of Hertfordshire Trip

 May 16th | Miss Ko

Our Year 10, 12, and 13 Art and Photography students recently went on an eye-opening trip to the University of Hertfordshire for their 2026 Creative Arts degree show.

The journey began at the Architecture Graduate Show, where students saw intricate architectural models in the architecture studio where they showed curiosity about studying the subject at university.

Adding their own Canons mark!

Next, they went on a tour led by staff members and current students from the Creative Arts faculty, which featured stunning work across graphic design, illustration, game design, digital arts, and set design.

Our students were truly captivated by the exceptional quality of work and interacted with some of the exhibits.

Attentively listening!

The day wrapped up with an informative creative careers talk that introduced students to post-secondary pathways. The future of art and design is bright!

Thank you to Mr Godfrey, Miss Haghighi, Miss Ko and Miss Komara for organising and attending this trip with our lovely Art students!
