Sixth Form Fright Night

October 10th | Mr Adenekan

Our Sixth Formers were treated to a trip to Thorpe Park's Fright Night!

With Halloween soon approaching, Canons High School always ensures to have trips and events in relation to seasonal celebrations! Students had a fantastic evening out at Thorpe Park, enjoying a mix of thrilling rides, good weather, and plenty of laughs with friends.

The Line-up for this year...

Ready to go!

The trip gave everyone a well-earned break - albeit terrifying-  after a busy term, with a chance to spend time together outside the classroom.

Many students said it was one of their favourite trips of the year, and it was great to see everyone smiling, and having fun. Days like this remind us how important it is to celebrate hard work and enjoy shared experiences as a school community!

Biology Field Trip

13th-16th October | Ms Bloohn and Ms Cooney

A Three Day Residential Field Trip for our Biology Students!

Our Year 13 A-Level Biology students recently enjoyed a three day residential field trip designed to bring their studies to life!

Miss Bloohn also accompanied her students!

Over the course of the trip, they explored a range of habitats to investigate biodiversity and identify different species within local ecosystems. Students developed their practical and investigative skills through hands on fieldwork, collecting and analysing data using ecological sampling techniques.

They then applied statistical methods to interpret their findings, gaining a deeper understanding of real world ecological research.

Beyond the science, students particularly enjoyed working outdoors, collaborating with friends, and experiencing the natural environments they had previously only studied in class.

Toasting some marshmallows to beat the cold!

Students also enjoyed their free-time during the evenings, playing games together and making the most of the bonfire pit! The trip was both educational and memorable, helping to strengthen their confidence and curiosity as young biologists.

We hope our students enjoyed the first of, hopefully many more science trips this academic year!

A-Level Drama Bacchae Trip

October 15th

Our  Drama Students took a well deserved trip to The National Theatre!

Bacchae is a play by Indhu Rubasingham, an ambitious reimagining of Euripides’ classic play, written by Nima Taleghani. It follows the story of Dionysos, the god of theatre, as he schemes against his cousin, King Pentheus, with the help of his wild and devoted female followers, the Bacchae.

The play was thoroughly enjoyed by both our students, and the staff which supervised. It was then followed by a workshop where our Y12 and Y13 A-Level Drama students were invited to give feedback on the performance!

Working hard...
Trips like these are always a treat, especially for our Sixth Formers who are working their hardest in preparation for their A-Level exams. It is always important to take the time to recharge, and enjoy activities that can be fun, and relevant to your studies!

Diwali Celebrations

October 17th

Celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Light!

Deriving from the sanskirt word "Dipavali" meaning Row of Lights, Diwali celebrates the triumph over darkness, good over evil and the inner light which protects from spiritual darkness.

Our Canons Staff came together to celebrate the Hindu and Sikh Festival of Diwali, preparing a vibrant and delicious array of snacks during breaktime!

Our Staff in their beautiful cultural outfits!

The staff room was beautifully decorated to enhance the festive atmosphere, with our staff who celebrate Diwali hosting in their elegant, colourful traditional clothing. Some of our teachers taught the whole day in their outfits, proudly representing their culture.

Meticulously arranged Indian desserts!

A wonderful spread of traditional Indian foods were prepared, from potato samosas, to pakoras, masala chai and desserts such as coconut and chocolate barfi, our staff were truly treated during their last week before half term!

Happy Diwali from everyone at Canons High School!
