Duke of Edinburgh
Bronze Award Expedition.
Sept 19th-20th
Chalfont St Giles was the location of our student's DofE Bronze Award Expedition.
Just 20 miles north of central London but a whole world away in looks, land usage and architecture, this area just on the edge of the Chiltern hills gave our explorers plenty to navigate using their maps.
Planning and then successfully following a map route of their own design is just one part of this 2 day and one night expedition.
They also have to carry everything they are going to need, including their tents, bedding, spare clothing and food, whilst also undertaking smaller side quests as they hike along!
Overseen and kept safe by our DofE Supervisor Mr J Benstead and staff volunteers Mr Theodoulou, Mr Patterson, Ms Snyder and Ms Gilbertson, it all went very well, was very enjoyable and certainly character building.
"I never thought I would be able to do that!"
For those who now feel like they want to be challenged a bit more, the tougher and longer Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award is their next step.
And for those Canons students who'd like to give this highly respected awards scheme a go, our next round of Bronze award activities is already being organised.
Speak with Mr J Benstead for more information.
Houses of Parliament Visit.
Sept 24th
Our Student Government representatives travelled to Westminster to visit The Houses of Parliament, the home of British Government.
The Palace of Westminster, where the houses of Parliament are currently situated, is an amazing and awe inspiring building. Our students really enjoyed seeing it for themselves and being at the centre of where our country is governed from.
Year 7 Boys Football Progress.
Sept 26th
Our newly formed Year 7 Boys squad did extremely well to get themselves through to the semi finals of the Harrow Borough tournament.
We look forward to watching their progress into the future.
Barnet FC Academy Win.
Sept 27th
It was a convincing 4-1 win over St.Albans FC for our Barnet FC Academy team towards the end of September.
Young footballer on the Barnet Academy path receive their training with Barnet FC, but undertake their academic education as students here at Canons High. We are rightly proud of their progress and achievements.
Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning
Sept 27th
Homemade cake was in abundance that Friday at break as we supported the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning.
Mr Barrett's Beetroot Chocolate cake was judged by our Food Teachers as the best submission, with Ms Haghighi's Lemon Victoria Sponge in second place and Mrs Mann's Truffle Choco in third.
But the real winners were the amazing 'Macmillan Cancer Support' charity, for whom we raised over
£680.
Huge thanks to everyone but special huge thanks to Mrs E Mann for all the organising, setting-up, crocheted toys and general running around that made this such a successful and enjoyable event. You're great.
RESPECT -
A Vital Part of Being Great!
Sept 30th
Mr Ben Wardle has just moved up with the year group he nurtured and managed last academic year, so he is now the Head of Year 9.

As Mr Wardle would say, anyone can be GREAT and almost certainly, everyone should be GREAT.
