Staff Macmillan Coffee Morning
September 26th
A sneak peek into the secret world of the staff room, where Friday's breaktime was a "sweet" escape from teaching!
Hidden behind the off-limit door for students, we held the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning Bake Sale.
Organised by our lovely Science Technician, Mrs Mann, The Macmillan Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support's flagship annual fundraising event, where "Coffee Mornings" are hosted across the UK to raise money and support for those affected by cancer.

Funds directly support Macmillan's vital services, such as providing emotional support, Macmillan Nurses, and support workers for people living with cancer, their families, and carers. Macmillan Cancer Support is 98% funded by voluntary donations, so Coffee Mornings raise vital funds to support the almost 3.5 million people in the UK living with cancer.
Mrs Mann knitted each of these wonderful pieces herself, ranging from coasters, to colourful snap bags and handbags, to keychains and delicately crafted, soft toys. Each piece was lovingly hand-made, and the profits went towards the fundraising total!

Mrs Mann also presented a rainbow of intricate pieces of jewellery, with so many to choose from, our staff were spoilt for choice. Our Science Technician ensures that Science is always incorporated, with the periodic table table-cloth!

So many baked goods to choose from! From Mr Barrett's Unusual and Delicious Parsnip Cake to Ms Nourzai's Nutty Baklava, Miss Yaseen's Buttery Blackberry Shortbread, Ms Klier's Colourful Chocolate Crunch, and so, so many more!
The beautiful Miss Gilbertson²!
Mr Kaya, (the proud new owner of a knitted piglet), self-nominated for the position of vice judge but could not decide his favourite!
Our Teaching and Support Staff here at Canons High School take this annual Coffee Morning very seriously. Each treat is judged by Mrs Yip, the Food Technician, and although there is no reward for the best bake, there's always some fun in a bit of friendly competition! After a thorough judging, Mrs Yip declared Ms Kiashek's Carrot and Walnut cake as the Bake off winner!
Here is her statement:
"The carrot walnut cake stood out for its perfect balance of flavour and texture. The sponge was moist yet light, with a gentle sweetness that allowed the natural carrot flavour to shine through. The toasted walnuts added just the right amount of crunch, creating a lovely contrast. Altogether, it was a well-crafted, delicious bake that impressed on every level."

Each year, Mrs Mann makes a huge effort to ensure the Macmillan Coffee Morning runs smoothly, taking so much of her own personal time to craft wonderful pieces to further boost donations. We truly appreciate all of the hard work and dedication that it takes to organise the Coffee Mornings here at Canons High School.
This year, we managed to successfully raise an amazing total of £650 for Macmillan Cancer Support! Thank you so much to everyone who participated and donated, and especially to Mrs Mann for making this happen!
Mathematical Competition for Girls Results
September 26th | Ms Balani
4 of our wonderful and hardworking Year 11 girls took part in this very challenging competition!
UKMT (UK Maths Trust) is established to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics by organising and running mathematics competitions.

The Mathematical Competition for Girls is a newly launched competition, a new opportunity designed to inspire and challenge young female mathematicians across the UK.
Over the last twelve years, UKMT's Mathematical Olympiad for Girls has become their most popular Olympiad. With entries reaching nearly 5,000 in 2024. Now, with this new competition, it allows even more girls to engage in Mathematical Problem solving competitions!
A huge congratulations to our 4 Year 11 girls who took part in this competition, Linh L, Rahma L, Kangna M and Vea P. With a special mention to Linh, who missed out on a merit by just one mark! An amazing effort from all!

Thorpe Park
September 25th-26th
100 of our Top Students in Years 8-11 visited Thorpe Park for their reward trip!
Working hard not only reaps rewards through progress, but Canons High School ensures to reward students' behaviour through an exclusive trip to Thorpe Park! This trip is held annually for the top 100 students in each year group, based on their Attitude to Learning.
Adventure of a lifetime!
Our Canons Teachers also attended the trip to "supervise", but made sure to make the most of the rides with the students!
Mr Bullock and Mr Boucheloui were brave enough to face the Nemesis Inferno ride, we can see which of the two enjoyed it more!
Making memories...
Here's what Mr Boucheloui had to say about his experience:
"It had been 14 years since I visited Thorpe Park; ironically with Canons as a student... many of those on the trip probably weren't even born!
Usually, I'd sit back and maybe enjoy rides closer to the ground but when the headteacher tells you let's go- you go. So, Mr Bullock and I decided to go on Nemesis Inferno. As we reached its peak, my eyes decided to close themselves and enjoy the speed, but not the view (as the picture so clearly shows!).
The year 8s and 9s had a great time and were very well behaved. Many of them were excited to talk about their experiences after their rides.
Some even went on Hyperia - the tallest ride at Thorpe Park. You couldn't pay me to try that. All in all... a great day!"
Proud of their win!
Trying to hide the excitement?
High Score!
Well done to all of the Year 8-11 students who were within the top 100 Achievement Points, and attended this trip. Canons High School ensures that effort and behaviour is rewarded through activities and trips that make the hard work worth it!
