September 2024
New Term | New School Year | New Students
As the summer slowly becomes a sunny memory and the leaves on the trees start to change colour, we enter Autumn Term 2024 and a whole new school year...
...but what else is new?
Principal Mr David Bullock welcomes our new Year 7 students on their first day at Canons High.
A Whole New World
A whole new cohort of Year 7 students were welcomed to our great school on 7th September.
The vast majority had visited Canons High before during their taster day, when they were a rainbow of different primary school uniforms.
But this time they were all in their smart red Canons uniform, united as our newest Canons High year group.
Principal Mr David Bullock welcomed them and gave a very positive presentation about how they can all succeed, our school community and the marvellous opportunities that will be available to them.
Then they were off, assembled into their tutor groups and with a busy day of timetables and maps, new names and new subjects ahead of them.
A few weeks later and they are settling in extremely well. They have their school computer sign-ins, they've met their new subject teachers, they can use all the canteen facilities, they know their way around the school site and are already an integrated part of our large Canons Family.
Head of Year 7
English Teacher and new Head of Year 7, Mr S Beck, had previously seen our departing Year 11s through their final and extremely important last year of high school.
He is now relishing working with, and looking after our new youngest year group.
Asked how his new year group were settling in, he said...
"In the few weeks they have been here, Year 7 have made an excellent start to life at Canons.
What strikes me most as their Head of Year is how confident and courteous they are in their interactions with all members of the school community, as well as their eagerness to contribute to its success.
I am sure they will continue to be fantastic ambassadors for us in years to come. "
Mr S Beck | Head of Year 7.

New Year 12 Sixth Formers
Also starting the next stage of their education journey were our new cohort of Year 12 Sixth Form students.
The vast majority are the same Year 11 students that Mr Beck successfully managed during the last academic year. But a few others are joining Canons for the first time.
These new Year 12s are noticing a few changes to the usual Sixth Form experience. Their study facilities and Common Room areas have been re-organised and revamped, their KS5 Office has been expanded and relocated and their teaching arrangements reviewed and updated. They also now wear bespoke Year 12 white Sixth Form lanyards to use with their new ID cards, as opposed to the usual black Sixth Form lanyards.
And as these students start their Key Stage 5, Sixth Form adventure, we also celebrate their most recent predecessors, many who have just moved on to commence their university studies. Their achievements and journeys will soon be displayed in a new visual celebration, reminding those who are just starting of what incredible results can be achieved.
