Canons High School

Performance Poetry Workshop and Evening 'Poetry Slam', feat 'Adisa'.

by Ms K Emmerson | English Department

"I just wanted to thank those of you who attended the poetry slam on the evening of March 14th.

I'd especially like to thank Jordan Patterson, Tia Haghighi and David Bullock for being great judges and deciding the final results of the live performance competition.

The students had a wonderful time and for those of you who did attend, I am sure you will agree that their performances were fantastic, that they had a serious confidence boost from the opportunity, and that Adisa 'The Verbalizer' our poet, is absolutely brilliant. (Hopefully, we'll see him again soon!)."

This Poetry event was part of the larger competition being run by the Eastside 'SPOKEN WORD POWER' educational programme. From the 11 performances, 5 poems will be going forward to the final of the competition on the 27th of March in the afternoon at the Criterion Theatre, London.

David C - "One of a Kind"  |  Sabrine A - "Dual Perspectives"  |  Mariam M - "My Vision"
Aditya M - "My Life" and Lemar B/Kawther E/Rares A & Aditya M - "The Red Abyss"

The other students involved in the slam have also been invited to the Criterion to show their support and for a well-deserved 'well done'.

Founded in 1994, Eastside empowers thousands of young people each year through the arts.

They do this by running participatory workshops and programmes for young people both in and outside of school settings.

Huge thanks to visiting poet Adisa.

This wasn't his first time at Canons and we certainly hope it won't be his last.

Also thanks to Eastside for running their 'Spoken Word Power' programme,

and last but not least, to our own Ms K Emmerson for ensuring everything went swimmingly at our end, so to speak!
