A Modern Hamlet takes the stage at The Arts Depot...
March 4th | Ms Nourzai
Students auditioned months in advance for a role in a modern interpretation of Hamlet, with Ms Nourzai and Ms Klier judging the auditions!
Practising for auditions...
After two days of auditioning, our teachers were given the difficult task of finalising the cast. As our Canons students are so talented, this was something that took a very detailed discussion and debate before the choice was made.
Our Hamlet cast worked very hard, spending much of their free time practising, dedicated to ensuring they deliver their best performance. After months of preperation, the final few days arrived.

On the performance evening, our students delivered a compelling and contemporary interpretation of Hamlet at the Arts Depot as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival, showcasing both creativity and emotional depth. The performance, the result of dedicated rehearsal and collaboration, reimagined Shakespeare’s classic tragedy through a modern lens while preserving its timeless themes of grief, loyalty, and inner conflict.
Check out the day through a reel created by our lovely Canons English Department!
Practise Practise Practise
The cast, having spent the entire day together in preparation, demonstrated remarkable cohesion and commitment. Their shared energy translated powerfully onto the stage, creating a performance that felt both intimate and dynamic. Each actor contributed to a production that balanced innovation with respect for the original text, offering audiences a fresh yet faithful retelling.
Our Canons Stars!
Set within the vibrant atmosphere of the festival, the production stood out for its thoughtful direction and expressive performances. The Arts Depot provided an ideal backdrop, enhancing the sense of occasion for both performers and audience members alike.
The day marked not only a successful staging of a Shakespearean classic but also a celebration of young talent, teamwork, and the enduring relevance of theatre.
