Drama Visits to the Theatre

The Phantom of the Opera
His Majesty's Theatre, Haymarket, London.

November

A group of our Year 10 and Sixth Form Drama students enjoyed a very special trip to the West End to see this amazing Andrew Lloyd Webber production.

However, this was much more than just a normal theatre show...
it was a special schools performance. This meant that as well as seeing the show, which was incredible, there was also a meeting and Q&A session with the actors, director, costume designers and much more afterwards.

Learning about the creation and production of a major theatre musical is fascinating and certainly makes you understand and appreciate the actual show more deeply.

Hiding their faces like the Phantom does in the show!

 Amazing sets at the show.

Thank you to Ms Macnamara [centre] Faculty Leader of Creative Arts, Drama Teacher Ms Marrey [right] and PE Teacher Mr Benstead [left] for accompanying our students.

Mr Benstead said how much he really enjoyed the show, and how he was singing the show songs all the way home!

The Other Place
National Theatre, South Bank, London.

November

A very different type of drama production was enjoyed by a group of our Sixth Form Drama students when they travelled to the South Bank in London, and the amazing  National Theatre complex.

'The Other Place', written and directed by Alexander Zeldin, is what has been described as 'edge of your seat' drama, ambitious and socially relevant.

Two sisters reunite on the anniversary of their father's death. As the uncle tries to remodel the family, the sudden reappearance of one of the sisters threatens to shatter this fragile idyll as she demands justice for the pain she carries. Guilt, grief and greed battle it out in the family’s competing dreams of their future.

This powerful play was brilliantly performed by a cast, most of whom you would recognise from television. It demonstrated the power and captivating emotion of live performance. Exactly what A-Level Drama students want and need.

The amazing set in which all the drama took place.
