Safeguarding Curriculum

At the heart of our safeguarding curriculum is a strong commitment to proactive and preventative education. We strive to equip every student with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to recognise risks and keep themselves safe. Through schemes of learning, guided discussions, and structured activities, students explore why safeguarding is essential and how it underpins both their physical safety and emotional wellbeing. Our approach is regularly reviewed and updated in line with the latest statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education, and reflects British values as well as the specific needs of our local community.

Our safeguarding curriculum is delivered through a comprehensive and structured programme:

  1. Our PSHE curriculum addresses a wide range of safeguarding themes, ensuring that students develop a secure understanding of topics such as online safety, healthy relationships, mental health, consent, and personal responsibility.

We enhance this provision through dedicated drop-down days, during which external agencies and specialist professionals are invited to share their expertise and provide students with current, real-world insights into safeguarding issues.

  1. In addition, each half term we focus on a specific safeguarding theme tailored to the needs of each Key Stage. These themes are promoted and embedded across the whole school community through:
  • Staff training and guidance delivered via staff bulletins, professional learning sessions, National College training, and regular briefings
  • Student assemblies, tutor-time discussions, and interactive quizzes to reinforce key messages
  • Parent fact sheets and newsletters to ensure families are informed and able to support safeguarding messages at home

Through this, we aim to foster a culture of vigilance, awareness, and shared responsibility, ensuring safeguarding remains central to our ethos and daily practice.
