Canons High School promotes good school attendance and punctuality for every student. Regular and punctual attendance at school is both a legal requirement and essential for pupils to maximise their educational opportunities.  School attendance is also a component of safeguarding children. School attendance is subject to various laws and this attendance policy is written to reflect these laws and guidance produced by the Department of Education.

The Department of Education expects schools and local authorities to:

  • Reduce absence including persistent absence
  • Ensure every pupil has access to full-time education to which they are entitled
  • Act early to address patterns of absence
  • Ensure that all students are punctual to their lessons and attend school regularly
For a child to reach their full educational potential a high level of school attendance is essential. We will consistently work towards a goal of 100% attendance for all students. Every opportunity will be used to promote positive attendance to students and their parents/carers. Each year the school will review attendance figures and set attendance/absence targets. These will reflect National Attendance targets.

The school will also review systems for improving attendance at regular intervals.
